Use of PTFE Tubes in Pharmaceutical Industries

PTFE tubing is a kind of fluoropolymer tubing that most industries cannot have enough of as there is the wide and diverse use of the same. PTFE tubing is a marked improvement to existing fluoropolymer tubing, and most PTFEtube manufacturers regard PTFE as an advanced tubing option and they regard it an integral part of projects that require both chemical inertness, high-temperature use and melt processing.

PTFE tubing is an able substitute for stainless steel tubing. Though PTFE tubing is quite expensive what works in favor of it is its unique advantages.

How is PTFE tubing commonly used?

PTFE is used in Pharmaceutical Applications

When quality control is the primary consideration, as it is in the case of the pharmaceutical industry, companies require quality tubings that maintain the purity of the material intact. One such example is the ultra-purified water used in transport via resin tubing that needs to remain chemically pure throughout its passage; PFA's or PTFE’s inertness to chemicals, that includes some of the other dangerous contaminants, usually found in labs such as sulfuric acid, make it the most sought-after choice as it is able to meet the high standards set by pharmaceutical industry. It holds especially true for pharmaceutical companies that include the use of highly corrosive materials such as nitric or phosphoric acid, PTFE is easily able to endure the damaging properties of such corrosive materials.

PTFE fulfills the requirement of pharmaceutical processing equipment chiefly because they have great properties such as chemical and thermal resistance. Their molecules also boast of continuous non-reactive surfaces and can be congruent with almost all chemicals and solvents. PTFE is resistant to chemical attack and performs better in such scenarios over hydrocarbon plastics and conventional chlorinated and its service temperature is also comparatively high.

PTFE is non-reactive and hence it does not leave corrosion by-products or extractables that contaminates processes. PTFE has a hydrophobic surface that is non-wetting and withstands any biofilm buildup and can be made a part of the strongest cleaning solutions along with steam-in-place processes.

PTFE coatings are also very important for the pharmaceutical industry as they are able to provide over braid seals and the requisite strength and helps in the cleaning and purging process with ease. It is to be noted that PTFE tube is able to do more than just pass muster the impossibly high standards set by the pharmaceutical industry.

  1. This is very educational content and written well for a change. It's nice to see that some people still understand how to write a quality post!
