How to Install PTFE Hose Fittings - A Quick Guide

Polytetrafluoroethylene also knew as PTFE is an opaque white fluoropolymer that can be chemically created and the process is known as free radical polymerization or using the process of multiple tetrafluoroethene molecules. PTFE is used in a wide number of applications and industries such as automotive, aerospace also telecom.

You’ll discover that PTFE tubes or rods are combined with metals such as stainless steel or carbon that increases the strength and wear resistance.

PTFE Properties

PTFE has a few distinctive properties and that is why it is preferred by most industries. It is resistant to chemicals, heat, electricity, and it is highly flexible as well.

PTFE has a melting point of 327 degree Celsius and it is chemically inert. Even when it is put through extreme temperatures such as high temperatures (260-degree Celsius) and low temperatures (-200 degree Celsius) it does not change or shows any signs of degradation. Check out some of the other important features here.

·         It has great flexural strength in low temperatures.
·         It has the impressive electrical strength
·         Its dielectric strength is potent.
·         Its water resistance power is great
·         It has a low coefficient of friction
·         Its density level is very high.
The fact that PTFE hoses are chemically inert that it only reacts to only a few chemicals, so the only way to cause any impact on it is via energy radiation.

The Tools Required for Fitting PTFE Hose

  •       Check out what are the tools you require here,
  • ·         Bench mounted vice
  • ·         Light oil, 3 in 1 or similar
  • ·         Imperial sized spanners (has to have a polished face)
  • ·         Small screwdriver or pick
  • ·         Fine tooth saw such as junior hacksaw
  • ·         Hobby knife
  • ·         Masking tape
  • ·         Pliers and snips
  • ·         Gloves and glasses
  • ·         Cloth to clean up
  • ·         Vice Jaws

Follow the step by step process for PTFE hose fittings.

1.       Cut the PTFE hose
2.       Fit the PTFE hose fitting socket nut on to the PTFE hose.
3.       Flaring the braid
4.       Install the olive ferrule
5.       Insert the PTFE hose fitting right into the PTFE hose as you hose and push the hose end nipple into the tube with the help of lubrication.
6.       Engage the socket and PTFE hose into the fitting thread.
7.       Use oil and tighten the PTFE hose fitting into the socket nut.
8.       Get a professional finish by aligning the flats.
Try the above guide and see if you are able to install PTFE hose fittings with a professional touch.
